How to configure Outlook on User PCs?

Postby janes.crasto » Mon Jun 07, 2010 5:05 pm

I'm completely new to SafeSquid, so this may sound quite primitive - If my Internet Server (one connected to DSL Modem) has SafeSquid (Windows edition) installed, how do I configure MS-Outlook on all user PCs connected to that Server? I tried giving the Internet Server name in SMTP & POP3 fields in the MS-Outlook setup, but did'nt work. Any quick help would be highly appreciated.

SafeSquid is an HTTP/1.1 proxy. It only supports HTTP / HTTPS / FTP and you can not use it for other protocols like SMTP, POP3, etc. Generally, you would use a firewall / router to control other protocols. If it would have been a Linux server, you could have used iptables for this. All new routers now-a-days come with filtering features, that allow you to control traffic based on protocol, IP, Port, etc. If you have such a router, make that as the default gateway for clients, so that you can control their access based on ports / protocol on the router, and point their browser proxy settings to SafeSquid.
