Support for NTLM authentication

Postby steinke » Wed Oct 08, 2008 1:28 pm

Presently Safesquid sometimes bombards users with multiple basic auth popup windows when PAM auth is enabled and for instance Windows Update or AV update scripts make requests in the background after logging on to a Windows workstation. The same can happen with Firefox after startup, when updates for the browser and plugins are queried.

Obviously this enervates users and there is a solution for that behaviour: Safesquid could use the Windows NTLM credentials automatically passed on by IE and Firefox on Windows.

Thus it would be very hepful if safesquid was able to make use of the Samba winbind helper /usr/bin/ntlm_auth. That allows external access to Winbind's NTLM authentication function. ntlm_auth uses winbind to access the user and authentication data for a domain.
